PMMA

PMMA offers a number of outstanding characteristics including optical clarity, transparency, optimum light transmission, colorability and impact and UV stability. It can also be engineered to give additional toughness and specific fire retarding properties.

The range of Lucite Polymers can be moulded or extruded very easily and provides an attractive replacement for glass. At the simplest level, Lucite Polymers give materials that are transparent, crystal clear and extremely lightweight but the real beauty lies in the Polymers' versatility as a creative medium. Materials made from Lucite Polymers are very robust and will not break, scratch or degrade easily. They can be color-matched to any desired effect and their superior weatherability and chemical resistance mean that they are ideal for use in outdoor applications.

Typical applications include outside lighting where color and physical properties remain unchanged even after years of use. Uses also include medical syringes, automotive brake lights and more recently watch face covers. Leading Swiss watch manufacturers, producing more than 70 million Quartz watches a year, use Lucite-based products to create the face covers.
